Das Video oben ist unschwer zu erkennen “Drop” von The Pharcyde. Regie hat Spike Jonze geführt. Einer der besten. Sein Können hat er uns kürzlich mit der wunderbaren Verfilmung von “Where The Wild Things Are” bewiesen. Auf seine Kappe gehen auch Knaller-Filme wie Beeing John Malkovich und Adaption. Angefangen hat er mit Skateboard-Filmen (“Yeah,Right!” oder auch “Hot Chocolate!”), da er Mitinhaber der Firma Girl Skateboards ist. Und falls ihr es nicht wissen solltet, die Videos von Fatboy Slim “Praise You”, und das unschlagbar beste Video der Beastie Boys “Sabotage” stammen auch aus seinem Kopf. So nebenbei ist er Erfinder von “Jackass” und Creative Producer bei dem extrem spannenden online-Tv-Stream Sender VBS.tv (gehört zum VICE Magazine). Ach und mit Sofia Coppola (Tochter von Francis Ford Coppola, ja, DER Coppola), welche uns ja auch grandiose Filme geschenkt hat (“Virgin Suicides”, “Lost in Translation” oder auch “Marie Antoinette”) war er mal verheiratet.

Genug zum Background von Spike Jonze. Dieses Video verhalf The Pharcyde zum Durchbruch und zählt bis heute zu einem der 10 besten Hip Hop Musikvideos überhaupt. 1991 wurde The Pharcyde beim Label Delicious Vinyl unter Vertrag genommen. Sie hatten keinen kommerziellen Erfolg, aber in der Szene wurden sie gefeiert wie nur wenig andere.

Shad wurde 1982 geboren, lebt in London und beschloss im Jahre 2007 sein Debut Album namens “When This Is Over” selbst zu finanzieren, als er 17.500 Dollar bei einem Künstler-Wettberwerb gewonnen hatte. Er wird in der Presse wegen seines Styles mit Rappern wie K-os und Common verglichen, was ihm sicherlich nichts ausmacht. Seine neue Single “Rose Garden” greift die Idee von “Drop” sehr gut auf. (Schaut das Video bis zum Schluss). Wir sind uns sicher, dass man bald noch mehr von Shad hören wird und wir sind schon mehr als gespannt. Also haltet auch wie wir die Augen offen.

Der „Not Afraid“ Track ist die erste Single aus Eminems neusten Album namens „Recovery“. Recovery ist Eminems siebtes Album und wenn die restlichen Tracks ebenso gut sein werden wird Eminem wohlverdient wieder ganz vorne mitspielen.

Der Rapper Keith Elam alias Guru erlag in einem New Yorker Krankenhaus am Montag (19.04.2010) seinem Krebsleiden. Wie nun bekannt wurde kämpfte Guru seit über einem Jahr gegen den Krebs. Guru wurde in den 80ern zusammen mit seinem damaligen Partner DJ Premiere als GangStarr weltweit bekannt. Mit Jazzmatazz führte Guru sein Schaffen nach GangStarr weiter. Seine Arbeiten haben maßgeblich den HipHop der neunziger beeinflusst.

Vor seinem Tod hat Guru einen Brief an alle seine Fans geschrieben gehabt der auf der amerikanischen Site yoraps als Ausschnitt veröffentlicht wurde:

„I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death.

Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans.

I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now.

The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance.

As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date.

Hier schon einmal ein kleiner Vorgeschmack auf das neue Kollaboalbum „Wu Massacre“ von Method Man, Raekwon und Ghostface. Amazon zufolge soll das Album am 2. April erscheinen. „Our Dreams“ lässt auf jeden Fall einiges erwarten!

„Next Time“ – ein unveröffentlichter Track der es damals nicht auf Commons „Finding Forever“ Album geschafft hatte. Schade eigentlich.
